Buying guide:How to choose the right SPARK generator?
To choose the optimal generator, you first need to define three key factors: the type of loads, the power required and the operating environment.
Quick comparison table by application
By technology and power type
Inverter generators
The latest technology, producing a pure sine wave voltage (THD < 3%). They are essential for powering sensitive electronics such as computers, TVs, heat pumps and modern boilers. They stand out for exceptionally quiet operation and low consumption.
Petrol generators
An excellent choice for occasional use, lower consumption and high mobility. Ideal for the home, weekend house, trade work and field jobs.
Diesel generators
Built for long-running operation, heavier loads and agricultural or industrial environments. They stand out for longer engine life, lower fuel costs and the option of automatic start (ATS).
By noise level and housing
Silent (encapsulated) generators
Fitted with a soundproof housing (Soundproof). Suitable for residential areas, night-time operation and events where you must not disturb the surroundings.
Open-frame generators
Built into a sturdy metal frame. They provide maximum air cooling and easy access for maintenance, ideal for open construction sites and field work.
Service insight:The 3 most common mistakes when buying and using a generator
At our authorised service centre, we want your SPARK generator to serve you for a long time without breakdowns. So pay attention to the following:
Allow for electric motor starting (starting current)
Devices with built-in electric motors (such as submersible pumps, compressors, refrigerators and tools) need 2 to 4 times more power than their stated rated power when starting. If a pump is rated at 1,000 W, you need a generator with at least 2,500–3,000 W of starting power.
The difference between a single-phase (230 V) and a three-phase (400 V) generator
Do not buy a three-phase generator "just in case" if you will use it 90% of the time only for single-phase loads (powering 230 V in the house). With conventional three-phase generators, you can only draw 1/3 of the unit's total power from an individual single-phase socket. For home backup power with single-phase wiring, always choose a powerful single-phase or purpose-adapted generator.
Correct storage and fuel
The most common reason for a service visit after winter is a dirty or clogged carburettor caused by stale petrol. If you will not use the generator for more than 30 days, drain the fuel from the tank and carburettor before storage or use a fuel stabiliser.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
ATS is an automatic mains transfer switch. When the system detects a power cut on the public grid, it automatically sends a start signal to the generator and transfers the building's power supply to the generator. When mains power returns, it safely shuts the generator down and switches back to the grid.
Generators with ATSFor charging electric vehicles, computers, TVs and medical equipment, be sure to use a SPARK inverter generator. It provides a stable frequency (50 Hz) and pure sine wave voltage without voltage spikes.
Inverter generatorsOn a new generator, the first oil change is mandatory after the first 20 operating hours (engine run-in). After that, a regular service inspection and an oil and air filter change are carried out every 50 to 100 operating hours, or at least once a year before the season.
Most 4-stroke petrol engines use standard SAE 10W-30 or SAE 10W-40 engine oil. For diesel generators, use a suitable diesel engine oil as specified in the user manual.
