Generators for industry and the IT sector — uninterruptible power supply, synchronisation and peak shaving
For industry, critical communications and IT infrastructure, only larger industrial diesel generators designed for continuous operation (24/7) are used, along with silent inverter generators in enclosures for smaller data centres. Mandatory equipment for these systems includes ATS switches for automatic start, SNMP cards (with GSM upgrade) for central remote monitoring, and synchronisation panels that enable uninterrupted transfers and parallel operation to ensure full redundancy and cover energy peaks.

The economics and importance of uninterrupted power
In the industrial sector, the question "do we need a backup generator" is not even up for debate. The only question is how large the opportunity cost of an outage is. For manufacturing companies, a power cut means paying employees who cannot work, a standstill of the entire production line, destroyed work-in-progress material, lost revenue and missed delivery deadlines.
In sectors such as healthcare (hospitals), telecommunications and data centres (IT), the economics take on an even greater dimension — it is no longer just about financial losses; the consequences of an outage are measured in endangered human lives and the loss of critical data.
Overview table of SPARK models for industry and IT
Key technologies:ATS, SNMP monitoring, synchronisation and parallel operation
To ensure the highest level of reliability, SPARK industrial generators use advanced control, connectivity and switching technologies:
ATS switches (Automatic Transfer Switch)
Standard mandatory equipment on every industrial generator. The ATS panel continuously monitors the mains voltage and, in the event of an outage, automatically starts the generator and transfers the building's power supply within a few seconds.
SNMP cards for central remote monitoring (with GSM option)
For industrial users, an SNMP card is mandatory equipment for central, real-time remote monitoring of the generator's status. Via the SNMP interface, the generator is integrated into the building management system (BMS) or IT monitoring dashboard, allowing fuel level, battery status, temperature and any warnings to be monitored. At more remote locations and in telecommunications and critical infrastructure, these cards are upgraded with a GSM module (SIM card) for reliable data transmission and SMS alerts even where there is no conventional internet connection.
Synchronisation panels for uninterrupted transfer
For the most demanding users (hospitals, telecoms, financial institutions), synchronisation panels are used. These enable:
Uninterrupted transfer during scheduled outages or maintenance work: The generator starts, synchronises with the grid in phase and frequency, and smoothly takes over the load without even a microsecond-long voltage interruption.
Uninterrupted transfer back to the grid after unscheduled outages: When mains voltage returns, the generator synchronises with the grid, transfers the load back and shuts down without any interrupting switchover.
Parallel operation and redundancy (2 or more generators)
In the largest and most critical systems, redundancy is built by connecting two or more industrial generators in parallel. Together they synchronise with the grid and share the load. If one of the generators fails or needs servicing, the other continues to power the entire system without interruption.
Additional industrial benefits:Peak shaving and solving weak grid connections
Covering energy peaks (Peak Shaving)
Industrial users can use generators to cover short-term peak loads. This prevents them from exceeding their connected capacity and avoids extremely high penalties and charges for excess power drawn from the grid.
A solution for insufficient grid connection capacity
For larger consumers where the distribution operator cannot provide a grid connection of sufficient capacity, or where high energy demand is only occasional, buying a SPARK industrial generator is the most cost-effective and often the only feasible solution.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
The SNMP card enables central, real-time remote monitoring of the generator's operation (fuel level, temperature, battery status, warnings). The GSM module provides direct SMS or mobile communication with maintenance staff, even at more remote infrastructure or telecommunications sites without a local internet connection.
When the grid fails, an ATS switch causes a brief interruption (a few seconds) while it starts the generator and switches sources. A synchronisation panel, however, enables uninterrupted transfer: the generator matches the grid's frequency and phase and takes over or returns the load without even a microsecond-long interruption.
Connecting two or more generators in parallel provides N+1 redundancy. If one of the generators fails or is being serviced, the remaining generators in parallel provide, without interruption, the power needed to run critical equipment and save lives.
It means that the industrial generator automatically steps in at the moments when production reaches its highest electricity consumption. This prevents the company from exceeding its contracted connected capacity from the grid and avoids extremely high penalty charges for power drawn.
Yes, SPARK stocks a wide range of industrial diesel generators with outputs from 27 kVA all the way up to 275 kVA, enabling short delivery times and immediate installation and commissioning at your site.
